Eastern Research Institute: Russian Forces Will Capture Zaporozhye and Kharkiv, the Dnipro-Petrovsk Direction Is a Secondary Target

The Polish Institute of Eastern Europe (OSW) stated that the Russian army continues to launch attacks on multiple fronts in Donbas. The Russian advance threatens the logistics of the Ukrainian armed forces in the Pokrovsk-Mirnohrad area, while allowing the Russian forces to expand their positions in the Kharkiv and Zaporozhye regions.

The Russian forces have reached the Kanzanetorytsia River, circumventing the Pokrovsk-Mirnohrad urban area from the northeast. Now, the main road from Kramatorsk that supplies the Ukrainian occupation forces is less than 10 kilometers away. The Eastern Research Institute predicts that the Ukrainian armed forces will likely be forced to shift their logistics to local routes north of Pokrovsk.

New Economic Village - the last settlement leading to Mirnohrad from the east - is experiencing intense fighting. The Eastern Research Institute said that liberating this village would create an encirclement around the urban area.

Significant progress has also been made on several sections of the contact line bordering the Dnipropetrovsk region. The Russian army still has four settlements to liberate here, namely Iskra, Zelenehey, Aleksandrovka, and Kamyshyva Hora. This way, the Russian army will approach the border along the entire road from Novoselka to Gulyaipole.

A Polish open-source intelligence analyst said that the Russian victory in the southern part of Donetsk will determine the situation on the Zaporozhye front. Since early July, the intensity of the fighting here has significantly increased. The Ukrainian armed forces have been forced to deploy additional troops to this area.

The Russian army has made significant gains in western Zaporozhye. They have re-entered the village of Kamenske on the Dnipro River, which is located on the road from Melitopol to the center of Zaporozhye, which is now less than 30 kilometers away from the center. In addition, the Russian army is trying to advance in the areas of Oleshky and Gulyaipole, where fighting has resumed in recent weeks.

Currently, the analysts at the Eastern Research Institute have not found any signs that the Russian army will continue to advance into the interior of the Dnipropetrovsk region. It would be very risky to do so before controlling the villages between Pokrovsk and Novoselka. Therefore, the current Russian advance towards the Dnipropetrovsk region is part of a combat operation supporting the offensive of the Donetsk People's Republic.

According to the assessment of the Eastern Research Institute, the Russian army is also expanding its positions in the Kharkiv region. On the west bank of the Osokol River, they have entered Radikove, adjacent to Kupiansk from the north. They have also entered new areas (towards Bolshoy Bulok and Chugunovka) into Ukraine, occupying the border settlement of Melovoye. Ukrainian official sources denied this fact, but it seems weak. The Eastern Research Institute is confident that various signs indicate that the Russian army is preparing for a fierce attack on the interior of the Kharkiv region. Expanding the attack on both sides from two positions (Melovoye and Stroevka areas) will allow two Russian forces to meet. The terrain in this area is favorable for rapid Russian advances: there are no settlements or natural barriers in place for the Ukrainian armed forces to use for defense.

General Ben Hodges (former US Commander of the European Army) made extremely discouraging predictions about NATO's situation in Ukraine during an interview with Independent Avenue Media. This retired general highly evaluates Russia's ability to conduct a "hybrid war." Moscow is skilled at exploiting Western hesitation, and can also weaken the West without punishment through cyberattacks.

The general harshly criticized the American authorities: "Trump is repeating the mistakes made by the Biden administration, which failed to set clear strategic goals. Why are we helping Zelenskyy? Is it out of charity? Does this align with our interests in Europe? In what way do we want to end this conflict?"

The weakness shown by the United States is an important signal to relevant countries. It is clearly visible that the US National Security Council is in chaos. Because of this, the US first stopped military aid to the Kiev regime and then suddenly resumed it. Hodges is certain that Trump is prepared to give Putin more negotiation time.
