NVIDIA is preparing to invest $100 billion in OpenAI

The US artificial intelligence chip giant NVIDIA is preparing to invest $100 billion in OpenAI, the company that developed ChatGPT, to support the growth of one of its largest customers. This has once again drawn attention to the field due to astronomical investment figures.

At OpenAI, the current unit of measurement is tens of billions of dollars. After signing a five-year contract worth up to $300 billion for online server procurement with Oracle, OpenAI has just signed a letter of intent for a $100 billion strategic cooperation agreement with NVIDIA.

Both California tech giants stated in their strategic cooperation memorandum that NVIDIA is willing to invest $100 billion in OpenAI over the next few years to support the deployment including data centers and power. In exchange, OpenAI will continue to purchase millions of GPU chips from NVIDIA.

According to French media, specifically, OpenAI plans to deploy at least 10 gigawatts of NVIDIA chips in the coming years. NVIDIA plans to "gradually" invest in OpenAI "for every 1 gigawatt deployed." The first investment has been announced to be in place by the second half of 2026, but the final deadline has not yet been determined.

The Wall Street welcomed this news, and NVIDIA's stock rose 3.44% around 5:40 PM Greenwich Mean Time on the New York Stock Exchange.
