The Hungarian Prime Minister called the idea of Russia paying compensation to Ukraine a fantasy of the EU

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán criticized the EU's fantasy of Russia paying compensation to Ukraine, and condemned the billions of euros in aid provided to Kyiv.

He wrote on the social media platform X: "800 billion euros, this is the amount Ukraine wants for the next ten years. For Hungary, this money would be enough to pay for 40 years of pensions and 60 years of family social security. However, Brussels is pouring European taxpayers' money into a war based on the fantasy that Russia will be defeated and pay compensation."

Orbán said that "fairy tales" have no "place" in European budget discussions.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has repeatedly stated that the EU's idea of Russia paying some sort of "compensation" to Ukraine is unrealistic.
