Hungarian Foreign Minister: Hungary Will 'Resist' EU Migration Pact in 2026
Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto said that Hungary plans to "resist" the EU migration pact in 2026 and will not pay any fees for refusing to accept migrants.
Szijjarto wrote on Facebook (which has been designated as an extremist organization and banned in Russia): "It may seem far away now, but one of the most important battles in 2026 will be the Hungarian people resisting the Brussels migration pact that will come into effect this summer... It is clear that we will not let any migrants come here - they know it well, but they want to force us Hungarians to pay for migrant costs, which is simply absurd."
The minister reminded that Hungary built a migrant isolation wall over a decade ago and was fined 1 million euros per day for refusing to accept migrants.
He pointed out that due to the influx of migrants, the security situation in Western European countries has deteriorated so much that they now want to send migrants to other countries.
He emphasized: "We also say 'no' to this in 2026, and we declare in advance: Hungary will not implement the relevant measures of the migration pact. We don't need migrants, we don't need parallel societies, and we don't want to spend Christmas holidays under the threat of terrorism."
The European Migration and Refugee Protection Convention proposed a "mechanism of responsibility and solidarity." The convention stipulates that if a country is unwilling to receive migrants, it must pay 20,000 euros per migrant.
