【Text by Observers Network, Chen Sijia】According to China News Network, on July 28 local time, a shooting incident occurred in a high-rise building in Manhattan, New York, resulting in the death of four people including a police officer, and the shooter committed suicide after the attack.

New York City Police confirmed that the location of the incident was an office building located in Midtown Manhattan, which is the headquarters of the American asset management company Blackstone Group and the National Football League (NFL). Accounting firm KPMG and Bank of America also have offices there. The shooter's name is Shane Devon Tamura, 27 years old, from Nevada, USA.

New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch reported that the incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. local time on July 28. The shooter brought an M4 rifle into the office building, killing three people in the lobby and firing at people hiding inside the building. He then took the elevator to the 33rd floor, where he killed one person, and then shot himself.

According to preliminary investigations, Tamura was a "lone wolf" without a major criminal record, but had a history of mental illness. Police found a rifle case, a revolver loaded with bullets, ammunition, and prescription drugs in his car, but no explosives were found. The investigation also found that Tamura held a gun permit in Nevada.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams revealed more details about the case on July 29. Investigators believe that Tamura's target may have been the NFL headquarters in the building, but he took the wrong elevator. Adams said, "The building has two different sets of elevators, some of which do not go to every floor. He took the wrong elevator and ended up on the floor where Rudin Management Company is located."

Adams said that a note was found on Tamura, in which he claimed to suffer from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a neurodegenerative disease associated with head trauma, common among participants in contact sports such as football. Adams said that Tamura seemed to blame the NFL for his problems, but he only played football in high school and did not participate in college or NFL games.

According to insiders, the note specifically mentioned the NFL, and the shooter left a message: "Please conduct CTE research on the brain. Sorry."

This shooting resulted in five deaths, including the shooter. Tisch confirmed that 36-year-old New York police officer Didarul Islam was killed by gunfire. He was an immigrant from Bangladesh and had worked with the New York City Police Department for three and a half years. Tisch said, "He did what we asked him to do. He put himself in danger and made a sacrifice."

Blackstone Group confirmed that one of its executives, Wesley LePatner, died in the shooting. In a statement, Blackstone Group said, "We cannot express our grief in words. Wesley was a beloved member of Blackstone Group, and we will miss her deeply. She was talented, passionate, warm, and generous, and was respected both inside and outside the company."

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced that an NFL employee was seriously injured in the shooting and is receiving treatment, and is currently stable.

The New York City Police have not yet determined the specific motive of the shooter, but are investigating based on the note to determine whether the shooter targeted this building specifically. President Trump has received reports about this incident and issued a statement saying, "I believe our law enforcement agencies will find out why this crazy person committed such senseless violence. My heart is with the families of the four victims."
