Japanese Media: U.S. Industry in Turmoil as Chinese AI New Model Emerges

According to a July 19 report by Japanese news agency Kyodo News: China's emerging artificial intelligence company Moonshot AI has unveiled a new model named "Kimi K3," whose performance is now approaching that of the most advanced AI models in the United States. The model’s scale and data processing capabilities have seen significant improvements in key metrics. For the United States, which has long led in this field, the sudden emergence of a formidable competitor has triggered intense market turbulence, leading to massive sell-offs in related stocks.

According to Moonshot’s description, the new model is compatible with Anthropic’s "Claude Fable 5" and OpenAI’s "GPT." Although its overall performance does not quite match the 5.6 Sol benchmark, it surpasses all other competitors.

The model’s parameter count reaches 2.8 trillion, exceeding China’s domestic rival DeepSeek. It is described as one of the largest open-source models in the world, accessible to anyone who wishes to contribute to its improvement. Western media reports highlight its low cost and high value as one of its standout features, making it highly competitive.

The launch of the new model triggered a sharp sell-off in artificial intelligence and semiconductor-related stocks on the New York Stock Exchange on the 17th, delivering a cold splash to what had been an overheated U.S. AI capital market.
