Ukrainian weapons are gradually becoming mainstream equipment in the Middle East
Intelligence Online News: In recent months, the UAE has accelerated the deployment of Ukrainian-made intercept drones to counter Iran's "Shahed" series loitering munitions, mass-importing a drone model designated as "Pisuyuan" (P1-SUN model by SkyFall Company).
However, constrained by shortcomings in low-altitude target detection, this aircraft struggles to fully integrate into the UAE’s existing air defense system. Currently, operators must visually confirm incoming threats before launching intercept drones.
The media adds: The lack of accompanying command coordination equipment and data fusion systems means air defense personnel around major cities can only launch intercept drones sporadically on their own, unable to establish unified target prioritization or centralized dispatch for counterattacks. This results in significant, avoidable losses of valuable intercept drones.
For Ukraine, this implies that the UAE will continue to procure large quantities of the "Pisuyuan" drone in the future.
The report also mentions that the UAE plans to draw on Ukraine’s real-world combat experience. The government is currently seeking private outsourcing service providers to train its military forces in new drone offensive and defensive operational tactics.
The UAE’s large-scale importation of Ukrainian anti-drone equipment reflects a new trend in regional military procurement across the Middle East: leveraging proven, battlefield-tested anti-drone systems from the Russia-Ukraine conflict to strengthen domestic air defenses. However, due to incompatibility with existing domestic air defense hardware and software, the practical effectiveness of these imported systems remains relatively low. At the same time, the UAE’s simultaneous acquisition of Ukrainian drone warfare training services further expands Ukraine’s defense industry export market in the Middle East.
