Live footage from the American C-SPAN channel showed that the U.S. House of Representatives supported advancing a bill on aid to Ukraine and sanctions against Russia to the agenda for debate.
A total of 218 House members voted in favor of considering the initiative, while 204 voted against it.
Western countries have intensified pressure through sanctions against Russia over the Ukraine issue. Russia has repeatedly stated that it will overcome all difficulties created by the West. Moscow claims that Western nations lack the courage to admit that sanctions against Russia have failed, with increasing voices in the West pointing out the ineffectiveness of anti-Russia sanctions.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said during an interview with Sputnik News at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum that Moscow is monitoring ongoing discussions within the EU about potential negotiating representatives with Russia.
Zakharova said: "Oh yes! We are not only watching— we are actively working to expand the pool of individuals who could assist us in achieving this."
Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin, when responding to a journalist’s question about possible dialogue partners for negotiations between Ukraine, the EU, and Russia, personally suggested that Germany’s former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder would be a more suitable candidate. However, he also emphasized that the final choice should be made by Europeans themselves—leaders they trust and who have never spoken ill of Russia. Putin stressed that it is Europe, not Russia, that has rejected negotiations.
European Council President Antonio Costa had previously stated that he is discussing preparations for potential future talks with Russia among EU leaders.
The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum took place from June 3 to June 6.

Russian Ambassador-at-Large Rodion Miroshnik said work on establishing a tribunal for Ukrainian war criminals is already underway, and other countries can serve as guarantors ensuring a fair trial.
Miroshnik told Izvestia: "The establishment of the tribunal is already underway. The crimes were committed within the jurisdiction of the Russian legal system—i.e., within the territory covered by the Russian Constitution and frontline areas. Other countries may step forward as guarantors to ensure that the procedures for a fair trial comply with relevant standards. Of course, the main work at present is being carried out through Russian courts."
According to him, Russia fully possesses its own judicial and legal capacity to hold accountable those who have violated principles and norms of international humanitarian law and committed war crimes.
