Foreign media: China has approved the import of soybean meal from Ethiopia, as part of an effort to expand sources of protein supply.

Starting from July 3rd, soybean meal that meets China's phytosanitary standards and is free of pests will be allowed into China. This measure is part of China's strategy to reduce its reliance on imported soybeans and diversify its supply sources. Although the volume of this import is expected to be small, it marks a significant adjustment in China's supply chain.

Previously, Chinese feed companies had obtained the first batch of soybean meal imports from Argentina since 2019, to address potential supply disruptions caused by the China-US trade war. In addition to Ethiopia, in June China also approved the import of soybean meal from Uruguay, further expanding the list of countries from which soybean meal can be imported, including Argentina, Brazil, Russia, and Belarus.
