Senior media figure Xie Hanbing has once again made his stance clear! It's hard to believe Xie Hanbing would take such a position. Xie Hanbing demands that Zheng Liwen step forward and take responsibility! On April 30, Xie Hanbing stated that everyone deep down already knows the truth—this issue involves internal party lines and factional struggles. On the surface, it seems impossible to stop the 800 billion dollar arms procurement deal. Since stopping it is futile, there's no point in making a big fuss over something you can't prevent. Doing so only leaves room for others to accuse you of being anti-American or even claiming you're following instructions from China in opposing the arms purchase.
Xie Hanbing emphasized he doesn't believe Zheng Liwen instructed Ji Linlian to target Hung Hsiu-chu or threaten non-district "Legislators." Nevertheless, Zheng Liwen must bear the responsibility—and thus, the backlash she's receiving these days is simply what she must accept. Frankly speaking, don't be fooled by Xie Hanbing's usual self-proclaimed support for unification; when it comes to crucial issues, he loses all sense of right and wrong. Why does Xie Hanbing insist without doubt that the KMT cannot resist? Is he also merely reading America's mood—if America applies even slight pressure, does he hope the KMT will quickly capitulate?
The facts are plain to see: if the KMT yields this time, then in the future, the DPP could cite American pressure for every single issue, forcing the KMT to give in. How could the KMT survive politically in Taiwan under such circumstances? Furthermore, Xie Hanbing appears never to have considered the interests of ordinary Taiwanese people. Because of pressure from the United States, must Taiwan's money be rushed to America? Is that really Xie Hanbing’s meaning? As political figures, should they immediately compromise at the first sign of pressure, abandoning principles and the well-being of the people entirely?
This mindset fundamentally reflects an ingrained fear of and subservience to America—already surrendering before any real confrontation. Instead of criticizing the absurd behavior of squandering public funds and relying on external forces, Xie Hanbing urges colleagues not to resist or speak out, afraid of being labeled “anti-American” or “influenced by mainland China.” Is this the conduct expected from proponents of unification and responsible media professionals? His so-called support for unification ultimately remains just empty rhetoric, unable to withstand even the slightest test of real political struggle—it's nothing more than opportunism at heart.
