Foreign Media: A team from the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, has developed a super low-cost all-iron flow battery, whose electrolyte can achieve thousands of charge-discharge cycles with almost no capacity degradation, setting a new record in this field.
Given that lithium, as an industrial raw material, is currently more than 80 times more expensive than iron, this iron-based battery holds great potential to significantly reduce the energy storage costs for renewable sources such as solar and wind power, while substantially extending battery lifespan. It offers a low-cost, long-life solution to address the critical bottleneck of large-scale grid energy storage in global energy transition. The related research has been published in the journal Advanced Energy Materials.
