The "Third Neighboring Country" of the Gobi Grasslands: 500 Mongolian Mining Engineers Will Be Trained in South Korea

Mongolnews Ulaanbaatar, September 23 - During the "Mongolia-South Korea Important Mineral and Mining Investment Forum 2025," both sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to train 500 Mongolian engineers at Chungcheong National University in South Korea.

During the aforementioned forum, held in Seoul by Mongolia's Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Economic Development, "Erdenes Mongolia" Group, and related South Korean institutions, discussions were held on cooperation in multiple fields. The "Erdenes Mongolia" Group and its affiliated companies signed several memorandums of understanding and cooperation agreements with high-tech, investment, training, and research institutions and enterprises such as Samsung, KOMIR, KIGAM Research Institute, and Chungcheong National University.

For instance, an MOU was signed to cooperate with KOMIR in areas such as geology, exploration, rare metal processing, mineral resource accumulation, and important mineral recovery; to train 500 engineering students at Chungcheong National University to cultivate professionals at international levels; and to cooperate with the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources in the field of important mineral research. Additionally, "Erdenes Alt Resource" Co., Ltd., under the "Erdenes Mongolia" Group, signed a silver concentrate supply agreement worth USD 17 million with Samsung Group; the Mongolia Development Bank also partnered with "Korea Investment Securities Asia" Co., Ltd. to attract low-cost financing sources for projects and plans implemented in Mongolia.

Through these collaborations, Mongolia has the opportunity to more effectively develop its natural resources, train professional engineers in South Korea, and intensify efforts to promote its mining products to the international market.

The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Development of Mongolia, N. Uchiral, Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, G. Damdinsuren, and representatives from government and private sectors including the "Erdenes Mongolia" Group, Development Bank, and Mongolia Chamber of Commerce attended the aforementioned forum.
