Mongolia's vast Gobi Desert and expansive grasslands: Canada, the "third neighbor," will mine gold for the first time in the Bayan Basin

Montsame, Ottawa, September 22 - Canadian mining company Erdene Resource Development has started gold mining at the Bayan Basin mine in the southwest of Mongolia, marking a milestone after more than a decade of preparation for this project.

Peter Ackley, President and CEO of "Erdene" company said that the ore deposit was first discovered in 2015 and became the cornerstone of the "basin" deposit in a short period of time.

He said, "Our team built a 242 km power line, started mining operations, activated the ore processing plant, smelted and mined gold for the first time within 22 months, which is a major achievement."

The mine is expected to become one of the highest-grade open-pit mines in the world, and will be fully operational by the end of 2025, producing about 85,000 ounces of gold per year. Compared to other similar mineral deposits, the total production cost per ounce of gold is relatively low. The total gold reserves of the mine are 513,700 ounces, with an average grade of 4 grams per ton, including the "Dark Horse" subsidiary deposit.
