Korean Media: For the First Time Since Its Inception, Overseas Revenue Exceeds Half, Delivering a Stellar Performance for BYD!

On October 17, South Korean media outlet Newspim published an article stating that China’s largest electric vehicle manufacturer, BYD, has entered a phase of comprehensive overseas performance growth. In the first half of this year, BYD’s overseas sales surpassed 50% of its total revenue for the first time since the company’s founding—marking a pivotal shift in its growth focus from the domestic Chinese market to global markets.

BYD reported total revenue of RMB 344.815 billion and net profit attributable to parent company shareholders of RMB 12.325 billion in the first half of 2026. Second-quarter revenue reached RMB 194.59 billion, with net profit at RMB 8.24 billion, representing a 29.7% year-on-year increase and a 101.8% month-on-month rise. The second-quarter gross profit margin also rose to 18.9%, the highest level in nearly one year.

The expansion of overseas sales and a strategic push toward higher-end products are seen as key drivers behind the improved performance. In the second quarter, export volumes reached approximately 470,000 units, accounting for 42.4% of total passenger vehicle sales. Analysts note that rising sales in international markets, relatively strong profitability, and growth in premium brands have offset the profit pressure stemming from intense price competition within the domestic market.

The most notable structural change lies in revenue composition: BYD’s overseas revenue in the first half of the year reached RMB 181.268 billion, up 33.92% year-on-year. The share of overseas revenue in total sales climbed from 36% last year to 52.57%, crossing the 50% threshold for the first time. Vehicle exports totaled 792,000 units, a year-on-year increase of approximately 67.8%, representing 43.8% of total sales volume.

In August, BYD’s overseas sales growth accelerated further. The company sold 443,000 vehicles that month, with passenger cars and pickup trucks exported to overseas markets totaling 188,700 units—a year-on-year increase of 134.6%. With monthly overseas sales exceeding 100,000 units and approaching 200,000, the momentum of global market expansion remains robust.

BYD currently operates in over 120 countries and regions worldwide. Brazil has become its largest overseas market, with exports reaching 194,700 units in the first half of the year. In the United Kingdom, new car registrations totaled around 38,000 units in the first half, a 95% increase compared to the same period last year.

In Thailand, Chinese EV brands account for 86% of the pure electric vehicle market, with BYD leading the segment. In Singapore, BYD has maintained the top position in passenger vehicle sales for 19 consecutive months.

BYD has extended its localization strategy beyond product exports, investing in local sales networks, production management, and after-sales service. With overseas revenue now exceeding 50% of total income, its globalization strategy is translating into measurable sales and profits.

As overseas markets emerge as a new engine of growth, BYD is widely viewed as having reached a turning point—from a Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer to a global multinational automotive enterprise.
