Foreign media report: Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD is evaluating the possibility of building a factory in France as part of its strategy to further expand its presence in the European market.

BYD’s executive vice president stated that France has been included in the company’s shortlist of potential sites for European production due to its competitively priced energy costs. The company has already announced plans to begin production in Hungary and intends to construct two additional factories in Europe.

As the European Union considers introducing rules promoting local production to address competitive pressures from rising Chinese auto exports, Chinese automakers are accelerating their efforts to establish manufacturing bases in Europe. BYD aims to reduce trade barriers, enhance supply chain responsiveness, and strengthen its position in the European new-energy vehicle market through localized production. The establishment of a plant in France would mark a significant step in BYD’s expansion across Europe.
