Trump Talks About the Ukraine-Russia War and US-Ukraine Cooperation: We Can at Least Get Something Back

In an interview with NBC News, U.S. President Donald Trump talked about the US-Ukraine rare earth agreement, the prospect of the Ukraine-Russia war, and his own stance. He pointed out that the United States recently signed an agreement with Ukraine on mineral extraction, which is beneficial not only to the United States but may also open a new window for resolving the Ukraine-Russia conflict.

When asked whether this represents the United States investing in Ukraine's future, Trump said he hopes to get close to reaching a peace agreement. He said:

"I think we are closer to one side than the other, but I don't want to specify which side it is."

He emphasized that this rare earth agreement is a "good deal" for the American people, and hinted that the United States can "at least get something back" through this method, while Europe will "get their loans back." He also criticized the huge amount of money the United States has invested in Ukraine aid:

"We gave Ukraine $350 billion, but they have no idea where this money went."

Trump again attributed the Ukraine-Russia war to the current president:

"Remember - this is Biden's war. If I were still president, this war would never have happened. It's a terrible war." He mentioned that about 5,000 soldiers die each week and said frankly:

"These soldiers are not Americans, they are Russians and Ukrainians. But I want to end it all."

When the reporter pressed him about whether he was close to giving up mediating the war, Trump responded:

"There will come a day when I say, 'Okay, let it be stupid.' If I really say that, it might mean I can do nothing."

He admitted that there is "a lot of hatred" between Zelenskyy and Putin, as well as between soldiers and armies, but still believes:

"We have a great chance to end this war."
