Serbian Minister: Serbia Should Strengthen Cooperation with the BRICS Countries
Popović, Serbia's Minister without Portfolio responsible for international economic cooperation, stated that Serbia should enhance its collaboration with the BRICS member states.
Popović held meetings with Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Manturov and Russian Industry and Trade Minister Aleksey Alikhanov on the sidelines of the International Innovation Industrial Exhibition, during which they discussed the development of economic cooperation between Belgrade and Moscow.
"There is tremendous potential for economic cooperation between Serbia and the BRICS countries. According to the latest data, more than half of global economic growth comes from the BRICS nations, while the G7 countries account for only about 20%. This clearly indicates a profound structural shift in the global economy. Under these circumstances, it is essential for Serbia to continue strengthening cooperation with both traditional partners and the BRICS countries," Popović said.
Popović also expressed gratitude to Russia for its support regarding the Kosovo and Metohija issue and its backing for Belgrade on international platforms. He emphasized that despite external pressures, Serbia will continue to pursue an independent foreign policy and remains the only European country that has not imposed sanctions against Russia.
The 2026 International Innovation Industrial Exhibition was held in Yekaterinburg from July 6 to 9.
