Foreign media: Recent intensive visits to China by Japanese politicians and business leaders are seen as signals to improve relations ahead of the APEC Summit hosted by China in November.
A cross-party delegation composed of young Liberal Democratic Party members is currently visiting China; Japan's largest economic group, Keidanren, and the Kansai Economic Federation also plan to visit China soon. Former Foreign Minister Yoshii Iwate will lead a delegation from the Japan Association for International Trade Promotion to seek meetings with their Chinese counterparts.
However, analysts point out that exchanges solely among legislators and the business community may not yield substantial progress. Shinya Rintaro, senior researcher at Asia Group, said Beijing may be expecting clearer signals of improved relations from Japan’s highest levels—such as the Prime Minister or Cabinet—otherwise these diplomatic efforts will have limited impact.
