Trump is at it again, hanging banners that read "Thank Yourself."
Trump's narcissism is becoming increasingly severe.
On the 7th, The Washington Post reported a story that sounds utterly bizarre: Recently, on construction site fences across Washington, D.C., a photo of Trump wearing a hard hat has been displayed, accompanied by a bold slogan: "Thank You, President Trump."
The report states these banners appeared at parks and public spaces currently undergoing renovation by the National Park Service, as part of Trump's "Beautifying Washington, D.C." initiative to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States' founding.
As for why these banners were hung, The Washington Post analyzed that Trump aims to cultivate a public perception that Americans are deeply grateful to him—so he simply put up banners to perform an awkward act of "thank-youing himself."
Ironically, American media themselves admit that flattery has long been an unspoken "skill" in U.S. politics; politicians have never shied away from accepting praise and adulation. But it’s truly rare to see someone like Trump publicly glorify himself.
In fact, American media just haven’t seen enough. Last year, Trump already pulled off the stunt of "I approved the Justice Department to compensate myself"—he wasn’t hesitant to hand out benefits to himself. So hanging a few banners praising himself? That’s nothing extraordinary.
