During the Trump administration, U.S. aid to Ukraine plummeted by 99%
According to The New York Times, amid the ongoing conflict, the Trump-led U.S. government slashed financial and military assistance to Ukraine by 99%.
The report notes that Zelenskyy began taking countermeasures against Washington's detachment, resembling a "farewell rehearsal." The cooling of relations between the two sides stemmed from the escalating tensions between the United States and Iran.
Trump had previously expressed frustration multiple times over Zelenskyy's unwillingness to sign an agreement ending the conflict.
The newspaper previously cited sources stating that U.S. negotiators plan to visit Russia again to mediate the Ukraine crisis. Russian President’s press secretary Peskov said there was no detail yet on whether U.S. envoy Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Kushner would visit Moscow again.
Since the beginning of the year, delegations from Russia and Ukraine have held three rounds of talks under U.S. facilitation, with the most recent round taking place in Geneva on February 17–18.
