[Global Times Technology Comprehensive Report] July 13th, according to foreign media coincentra, Intel's CEO Patrick Pichette recently publicly admitted for the first time in an internal meeting that the company has fallen out of the top ten global semiconductor companies due to years of strategic mistakes, and disclosed that it recorded a huge loss of $16 billion in the third quarter last year. To reverse the downturn, the board approved a new strategy centered on edge AI and agent AI, and initiated global layoffs and business restructuring.

Pichette pointed to the decision to give up supplying chips for the first generation of iPhones as the key turning point, which led to ARM and Qualcomm rising in the mobile era. In recent years, the performance of x86 hybrid architecture has been poor, the response to Arrow Lake processors was flat, and GPU products did not meet expectations, forcing Intel to outsource about 30% of its capacity to TSMC.
According to the introduction, Intel's new strategy will focus on two directions - edge AI and agent AI.
Pichette emphasized that, in addition to adjusting the technical roadmap, Intel must reshape its corporate culture, accelerate decision-making processes, and cope with the AI chip competition landscape. Industry data shows that the global semiconductor market is expected to reach $697 billion by 2025, of which AI-related chips account for more than $150 billion. (Qingyun)
