【CNMO Tech News】Recently, South Korean media cited a new study indicating that half of the world's top 100 artificial intelligence (AI) scientists are Chinese scholars, and their research has been conducted at Chinese institutions or companies. At the same time, 50% of the top 20 AI scientists active in the United States are Chinese Americans.

According to the information, this data comes from a joint analysis by the UNIDO ITPO China and Dongbi Technology Data Co., Ltd. The study evaluated the world's top 100 scientists based on about 200,000 AI scholars' 95,000 key academic papers between 2015 and 2024, using influence indicators such as citations, and the results were recently announced.
The report specifically mentioned Chinese American scientists working at top U.S. institutions, such as Associate Professor He Kaiming from MIT and Associate Professor Zhu Junyan from Carnegie Mellon University, both pioneers in the field of computer vision. This technology simulates human vision to analyze images.
Chinese research institutions also performed outstandingly. According to "AI Rankings," which tracks global AI output, Peking University has consistently ranked first since 2022, followed by Tsinghua University and Zhejiang University, taking the top three spots globally. Among the top ten global AI research institutions, five are Chinese.

CNMO noticed that global tech giants are accelerating the competition for Chinese AI talents:
NVIDIA recently hired Professor Zhu Banghua from the University of Washington and Professor Jiao Jiantao from UC Berkeley (both alumni of Tsinghua University);
He Kaiming is reportedly invited by Google DeepMind;
Meta, the parent company of Facebook, recently poached at least five Chinese AI experts from OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, including Zhao Xiaohua, a core model contributor.
