Korea JoongAng Daily: South Korea's exports rebound strongly in early July, semiconductors and automobiles lead the way

According to a report by Korea JoongAng Daily on July 11, data from the Korea Customs Service showed that South Korea's exports from July 1 to 10 reached $19.4 billion, an increase of 9.5% compared to the same period last year. The average daily export volume was $2.28 billion, with exports showing a positive growth of 4.3%, marking the first recovery in a month. Among major products, semiconductor exports increased by 12.8%, passenger vehicles by 13.3%, and ships surged by 134.9%. The share of semiconductor exports rose to 19.7%, increasing by 0.6 percentage points; exports to China grew by 6.2%, to the United States by 6.1%, and to the EU by 3.6%, but exports to Hong Kong declined by 43.1%. Imports amounted to $20 billion, up 1.8%, resulting in a trade deficit of $6 billion. A customs service official pointed out that despite external pressures such as U.S. tariff increases, the growth in exports was mainly driven by demand for high-value-added products such as semiconductors and automobiles, indicating the resilience of South Korea's manufacturing sector.
