Ukrainian Foreign Minister proposed to ban Russian citizens who participate in the war from entering the EU, following Estonia's example

On February 9, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Sybiga posted on the X platform, "It's time to implement a complete entry ban for Russian citizens involved in the invasion of Ukraine across the EU. First, this is about the long-term national security of European countries, protecting Europeans from Russian thugs. Second, it will make the wrong choice pay the price: every Russian citizen who signed up to invade Ukraine will realize that this is equivalent to signing a lifetime ban from entering Europe."

Sybiga affirmed Estonia's leading role.

"Estonia has taken the initiative to introduce related country bans and has proven the mechanism effective. Now it should be expanded throughout the EU, and I call on my EU colleagues to take this step seriously, which is crucial for consolidating European security."
