Foreign media: China stated on July 18 that it will closely monitor the UK's nationalization of British Steel, a company under China's Jijing Group, and take appropriate measures when necessary to safeguard Chinese legitimate rights and interests.
The UK fully took over the struggling enterprise on July 16, citing national security concerns. China said this move has triggered extensive attention domestically, and the UK's handling will directly affect Chinese investors' confidence in the UK investment environment as well as the credibility of the UK government among the Chinese public. Meanwhile, China urges the UK side to seek a mutually acceptable solution, including compensation arrangements.
Jijing Group has already requested compensation from the UK for investment losses last week.
