China bought 1.26 million tons of U.S. soybeans? Rumor!
Recently, another rumor has appeared online, stating that China and the United States have reached an agreement, and China recently purchased 1.26 million tons of U.S. soybeans, which is claimed to be "the largest single-day purchase since 2020."
So, how true is this news?
In fact, this is a rumor. The source of the so-called "China purchasing 1.26 million tons of U.S. soybeans" is actually an article from The New York Times on September 25th, but it should be noted that the original text of The New York Times says: "Last year, China purchased $1.26 billion worth of U.S. soybeans, and now this number has become zero" (Figure 4).
The New York Times clearly states that this procurement transaction took place last year, and it was $1.26 billion worth of soybeans, not 1.26 million tons.
As of now, the most popular news sources that like to expose White House secrets, such as The Wall Street Journal, CNN, The Washington Post, and The New York Times, have not released any specific reports confirming that China has resumed the purchase of U.S. soybeans.
On the contrary, this rumor is currently widely spread on Chinese networks, especially in cryptocurrency trading communities and the circles of some economic and financial professionals. Many people have confidently claimed to have obtained insider information, but when asked where their inside information came from, they all started to act deaf and mute, or change the subject.
Some people with ulterior motives even fabricate rumors so clumsily, which is simply ridiculous.
