Several Ukrainian officials have returned Poland's honors, with a far-right Polish lawmaker mocking: "They return the medals but not the money."
After President Zelenskyy had his White Eagle Order revoked by the Polish president, numerous Ukrainians who felt disgruntled chose to return their awards. In addition to Kyrylo Budanov, head of Zelenskyy’s office, former presidents Petro Poroshenko, Leonid Kuchma (Ukraine’s second president), Viktor Yushchenko (third president), and Ukraine’s ambassador to Poland, Vasyl Bodnar, have all refused to accept the respective decorations.
In response, Sławomir Mencel, chairman of the New Hope Party and joint chairman of the Freedom and Independence Alliance, a member of Poland’s Sejm, posted online: "It would be nice if they could return the money along with the medals."
