Trump posted on social media today: "We now have complete control of Iran's airspace." He then followed up with two more posts, claiming that he already knows the whereabouts of Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei. "Khamenei is now very vulnerable to attack, but we will not kill him, at least not for now; however, our patience is wearing thin." "Unconditional surrender!"
Trump's remarks were highly provocative and filled with hostility. His claim of having full control over Iran's airspace is debatable. Iran has its own air defense system and has always been prepared militarily; even with their strong military power, it would not be easy for the U.S. and Israel to completely control Iran's airspace. This may be more of a psychological warfare and public opinion pressure.
As for mentioning knowing Khamenei's whereabouts and saying they won't kill him for now but patience is running out, such statements seem more like a strategy of maximum pressure. On one hand, it shows America's so-called intelligence advantage and military deterrence to Iran; on the other hand, the demand for "unconditional surrender" leaves no room for negotiation and is almost impossible for Iran to accept.
If the U.S. takes further military action, it will not only bring disaster to Iran and Israel but also drag the U.S. into the quagmire of an Iran war, just as it did in Afghanistan and Iraq, accelerating the decline of its hegemony.
