Foreign media: China has developed a new type of floating droplet electricity generator (DEG), which can convert the kinetic energy of raindrops into renewable power.
Compared with traditional land-based DEGs, this floating device uses water as part of its structure and power generation, offering advantages such as lightweight, strong scalability, and lower cost. The device was successfully tested in Donghua Lake in Nanjing, showing good durability and environmental adaptability, and can operate under different temperatures and salinity levels, even functioning normally in natural lake water containing biological pollution.
The research team also designed drainage holes to optimize performance, enabling it to charge a capacitor to an effective voltage within minutes, and is expected to provide power for small electronic devices and wireless sensors.
In the future, this device can be installed in lakes, reservoirs, or coastal waters without occupying land, opening up new ways to obtain clean energy.
