On the 19th local time, according to reports by Japan's Kyodo News citing multiple Japanese government sources, government-level consultations on resuming the export of Japanese beef to China have been suspended, based on China's intention.

Kyodo News stated that China has suspended the import of Japanese beef since 2001. The two governments signed an animal health and quarantine agreement in 2019, but later it stalled and was not advanced. In July this year, Japan said that the animal health and quarantine agreement regarding Chinese beef had officially come into effect. This agreement's effectiveness is a major prerequisite for the resumption of Japanese beef exports. To achieve the actual resumption of exports, both sides will continue to negotiate on food hygiene and quarantine aspects.

Additionally, according to a report by Japan's NHK on the 19th, China has formally notified Japan that it will suspend the import of Japanese seafood products.

At the regular press conference held by the spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Mao Ning, on the same day, responded that due to the recent actions of Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso, who has acted against the tide, and his erroneous remarks on major issues such as Taiwan, which have caused strong public anger among the Chinese people. Under the current situation, even if Japanese seafood products are exported to China, there would be no market.

Mao Ning also pointed out that if Japan refuses to withdraw its stance, or even makes further mistakes, China will have no choice but to take firm and severe countermeasures, and all consequences resulting from this will be borne by Japan.
