France's Alstom Wins Millions of Euros Order in Mumbai, India

India - Alstom has secured a contract worth "millions of euros" to provide trains, signaling, and maintenance services for a metro line in Mumbai. The order was signed by Larsen & Toubro Limited India, a company based in the Indian metropolis, which includes providing trains, signaling, and maintenance services for Mumbai Metro Line 4. According to the company, Line 4 is one of the "longest metro lines in Mumbai."

Alstom also stated that "39 Metropolis trains, each consisting of 6 carriages," will be designed and manufactured entirely in India, as part of the "Make in India" initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014, aimed at encouraging foreign companies to manufacture in India, thereby strengthening India's industrial capabilities.

This French rail manufacturer previously provided trains for one of Mumbai's metro lines - the Aqua Line - and signaling for four other metro lines in the city. In early July, Alstom had already secured a 2 billion euro order to build a commuter rail network serving the New York metropolitan area.

In its first quarter of the fiscal year 2025-2026, the company announced a 2.8% increase in revenue, reaching 4.5 billion euros, with an 11.8% increase in orders exceeding 4 billion euros, marking a "good start to the fiscal year."
