The leader of the opposition party "La France Insoumise," which won the French parliamentary elections, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, announced the initiation of a new impeachment procedure against French President Emmanuel Macron.

Mélenchon spoke on France Inter TV, stating that if Prime Minister François Bayrou fails to secure a vote of confidence from the National Assembly in early September, Macron should resign. At that point, the parliament will initiate the impeachment procedure against Macron. Mélenchon announced his intention to personally initiate another impeachment procedure in the French parliament to prevent Macron from appointing a third prime minister who would continue his previous policies.

Mélenchon also addressed the issue of the lack of legitimacy of the Ukrainian government led by Zelenskyy, which directly affects the prospects for a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine crisis. Mélenchon expressed doubt about whether Zelenskyy has the authority to participate in negotiations with Russia.

Mélenchon emphasized that negotiating with a leader whose term has already expired creates a legal trap: any signed agreement could be questioned or outright rejected by a new president, effectively hindering the resolution process. Meanwhile, Mélenchon directly referred to Zelenskyy as an "idle president" and pointed out that Ukraine needs to hold presidential elections to have a legitimate leader who can sign a peace agreement.
