Korean Media: Tesla's Shanghai Factory Shipment Volume Surges 36%!

On June 9, South Korean media outlet Business Korea published an article stating that sales of electric vehicles produced by Tesla in China are showing signs of recovery and experiencing significant growth.

As of April this year, Tesla's Shanghai factory has cumulatively produced approximately 79,478 electric vehicles, marking a 36% year-on-year increase. It is reported that this figure includes not only domestic sales within China but also exports to Europe and Asia.

The main models sold are the Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y. In particular, Model Y is expected to maintain high demand globally.

Market observers interpret this growth as a sign that Tesla’s brand competitiveness remains strong despite increasingly fierce competition in China’s electric vehicle market.

Although Chinese domestic companies have recently been actively intensifying price competition and launching new models, Tesla continues to maintain its resilience based on production efficiency and its global supply chain.

Notably, the Shanghai factory serves as a crucial export hub for Tesla. It handles not only domestic sales but also supplies a substantial portion of the European market, making it one of the core pillars of Tesla’s global production strategy. Accordingly, changes in output from the Chinese factory are seen as directly impacting Tesla’s overall performance.

Experts believe that recent increases in international oil prices, along with ongoing environmental policies implemented by certain countries, have positively influenced the revival of demand for electric vehicles. Furthermore, analysis indicates that consumer confidence is strengthening as some regions continue to implement EV subsidy policies.

At the same time, Tesla is pursuing a strategy involving the development of low-cost electric vehicles and expanding its autonomous driving technology.

However, regarding autonomous driving features, European regulatory authorities are still conducting reviews, and the commercialization timeline for full self-driving remains uncertain.

Industry insiders believe one of the key variables moving forward will be how Tesla balances its strategies between price competition and capacity expansion.
