Sputnik News, Washington, October 15 - US Treasury Secretary Bensont said on October 15 that approximately 85 senators are prepared to support authorizing President Trump to impose tariffs of up to 500% on Chinese imports of Russian oil.
Bensont said at a press conference: "85 senators are prepared to grant President Trump the power to impose tariffs of up to 500% on Chinese imports of Russian oil."
Bensont stated that Trump has instructed US ambassadors to inform European allies that the US is prepared to support imposing tariffs on Chinese imports of Russian oil if European partners comply.
The Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced on October 9 that starting from November 8, it will implement export controls on a series of key items, including super-hard materials, rare earth equipment and raw materials, some medium and heavy rare earths, as well as lithium battery and artificial graphite anode materials. US President Trump said on October 10 that starting from November 1, 2025 (or earlier), the US will impose a 100% tariff on all Chinese goods exported to the US. This rate is much higher than the current standard. Trump explained that this is due to China's "aggressive trade stance".
