Japanese media: "Xiaomi is the real competitor of Tesla!"
On August 5, Japanese media "Nikkei" published an article stating that Chinese IT company Xiaomi, which entered the electric vehicle market about a year ago, has become the "real competitor" of American electric vehicle company Tesla in the Chinese market.
Xiaomi leads Tesla in terms of cost competitiveness and product strategy.
Tesla's second-quarter financial report recently showed a 13% decline in sales, continuing for the second consecutive quarter. Especially in the Chinese market, its shipment volume has been declining for eight consecutive months.
Tesla has not released a new car for more than one and a half years, and its product line is aging. The negative attitude of the Trump administration towards electric vehicles, that is, the U.S. political environment, has also had a negative impact on it.
On the other hand, after launching its first electric vehicle "SU7" last year, Xiaomi officially launched its first electric SUV "YU7" on June 26.
The YU7 is comparable to the Tesla Model Y, with a slightly lower price but about 40% longer range. Therefore, its cost performance is evaluated as superior to Tesla.
Xiaomi's business model is more competitive compared to Tesla. Xiaomi, which expanded from smartphones to the electric vehicle field, has established a model of creating revenue through applications after selling hardware, while Tesla does not have such a model yet.
