Danish Armed Forces: Denmark, U.S., and Canada Conduct Joint Air Exercises Over Greenland

Sputnik News, Moscow — The Danish Armed Forces announced that Danish, American, and Canadian fighter jets conducted joint exercises in the airspace above Greenland under the NATO "Arctic Sentry" mission framework.
In its statement, the Danish Armed Forces noted that the United States deployed F-16 aircraft, while Canada contributed F-18 fighters. Support was provided by a French MRTT aerial refueling tanker, an NATO AWACS early warning aircraft responsible for air surveillance and coordination, and a Danish Challenger aircraft.
The statement further indicated that Denmark’s F-35 fighters were stationed at Keflavik Air Base in Iceland, while U.S. and Canadian fighter aircraft were based at CFB Goose Bay in Canada.
NATO launched the "Arctic Sentry" mission in February 2026, aimed at enhancing the alliance’s presence and capabilities in the Arctic and sub-Arctic regions. NATO representatives stated that the new mission integrates existing and newly added military activities by allied nations in the region.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said Russia has taken note of NATO’s initiation of the "Arctic Sentry" mission, adding that such actions have transformed what was once a peaceful Arctic into a zone of geopolitical competition.
