Takagi: "Comprehensively advance dialogue to establish stable relations"

According to a November 7 report by Japanese media Asahi Shimbun, Takagi stated in response to a journalist's question on Sino-Japanese relations: "We will comprehensively promote the establishment of a strategic, mutually beneficial relationship with China. On issues jointly facing both sides, we are committed to communication and dialogue, safeguarding national interests in order to build a constructive and stable relationship."

Takagi said: "China is a significant neighboring country. Although bilateral relations face challenges, these stem from issues accumulated over many years. We will advance dialogue between both sides to safeguard national interests."

Last year, Takagi told parliament that any military conflict involving Taiwan could pose a threat to Japan’s survival, prompting a rapid deterioration in Sino-Japanese relations.
