Brazil's Finance Minister: US Cancels Tariff Talks with Brazil Due to "Lack of Schedule"
Brazil's Finance Minister Fernando Haddad stated that the United States has canceled a video conference between the US and Brazilian finance ministers on August 13, due to "lack of schedule."
Adade told Globo News: "The video conference scheduled for Wednesday was canceled."
According to him, the Brazilian side received an email about the cancellation of the meeting.
The minister pointed out: "They (the US) canceled the meeting on the grounds of 'lack of schedule.' This is a very unusual situation. Trade issues are not the focus of attention."
On July 30, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order to increase tariffs on Brazilian products to 50%, but at the same time introduced nearly 700 exemptions in strategic areas such as aircraft manufacturing, energy, and certain agricultural sectors. Brazil has initiated World Trade Organization dispute settlement procedures, requesting the US to hold consultations on tariff issues.
