Afghanistan's senior leader's spokesperson, Zabihullah Mujahid, told Sputnik News that Afghan officials hope for significant progress in bilateral relations with Russia after Russia recognizes the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

The Afghan Foreign Ministry previously stated on the social network X that Russian Ambassador to Afghanistan Dmitry Zhirnov officially announced the decision of the Russian government to recognize the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

Mujahid said: "Russia has opened a window of opportunity in this area, and we hope other countries will follow suit.
