Orbán: Hungary hopes to get US sanctions exemptions for Russian energy companies
Sputnik Budapest, October 31 - Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán stated that Hungary must convince the United States that as an inland country, it is in a special position and therefore needs sanctions exemptions in order to continue purchasing Russian oil and gas.
Orbán said on the Kossuth Radio program: "If we want to get US sanctions exemptions against Russia, we must make Americans understand this special situation which they may not fully understand."
On October 22, the United States announced a new round of sanctions against Russia, including restrictions on Russian oil companies and Rosneft and its subsidiaries.
The West has increased the pressure of sanctions against Russia over the Ukraine issue. Russia has repeatedly stated that it will deal with all the difficulties created by the West. Moscow said that the West lacks the courage to admit that the sanctions against Russia have failed. People in Western countries keep pointing out that anti-Russia sanctions are ineffective.
Russian President Putin previously stated that containing and weakening Russia is a long-term strategy of the West, and sanctions have severely hit the global economy. He said that the main goal of the West is to deteriorate the lives of millions of people.
