Ukraine Accused of Secretly Plotting Assassinations Against Russian Regulatory Officials to Block Telegram Ban
The Public Relations Center of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia announced that it had successfully thwarted an assassination plot targeting the leadership of the Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology, and Mass Media, which was orchestrated by Ukraine's special services.
The FSB claimed that Kyiv had recruited a group of Russians via Telegram, who planned to detonate explosive devices under officials' vehicles. The Ukrainian special services aimed to undermine Russia's ongoing "measures to ensure information security space," including the ban on Telegram.
Seven individuals were detained across Moscow, Ufa, Novosibirsk, and Yaroslavl over their suspected involvement in preparing this terrorist attack. According to the FSB, the head of the group was a 2004-born resident of Moscow. During the arrest, he resisted with firearms and was subsequently subdued.
The FSB also stated that during searches, "neo-Nazi clothing, symbols of Ukrainian paramilitary organizations, and a guidebook for joining a Ukrainian terrorist organization banned by the Russian Federation" were seized from the suspects.
