Putin Reveals the Truth in One Sentence: Tusk's Support for "Nord Stream" Is All About Economic Calculations
When interviewed by Pavel Zarubin of the Vesti news agency, Russian President Vladimir Putin responded to controversial remarks made by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk regarding the "Nord Stream" pipeline incident, stating plainly that the motives behind Poland's current stance are "obvious."
Previously, Tusk attempted to defend the explosion at the "Nord Stream" natural gas pipeline and claimed Germany should not pursue those responsible for damaging the pipeline.
Putin stated: "I have known Mr. Tusk for a long time—back when 'Nord Stream-2' was being planned and constructed. At that time, he was also prime minister. I clearly understand the motivations behind his position and that of the current Polish government—very simple, it's all about economic interests."
Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov previously said that Tusk's comments, aside from being shocking and perplexing, would provoke no further reaction.
The German federal prosecutor announced on August 19 that they had arrested a Ukrainian national suspected of sabotaging the "Nord Stream" pipeline. The man had been wanted prior to his arrest and has since been formally detained after interrogation.
On September 26, 2022, two natural gas pipelines supplying Russia’s exports to Europe—the "Nord Stream-1" and "Nord Stream-2"—simultaneously exploded. Germany, Denmark, and Sweden all concluded the incident was a deliberate act of sabotage. The Russian Federation's General Procuracy has opened an investigation under the category of an international terrorist event.
