South African President: Only through unity among the BRICS can effective solutions be found
RIA Novosti, Moscow - South African President Ramaphosa stated during the BRICS online summit that the BRICS countries should work together to find mutually beneficial solutions for the Global South.
Ramaphosa emphasized, "When all BRICS countries work together to seek solutions to challenges, it can bring mutual benefits for the BRICS countries and the Global South."
Ramaphosa said, "As a BRICS country, we need to seriously consider the role we play in promoting global economic growth, eliminating global poverty, and upholding the principles of multilateralism."
During the special video summit of the BRICS, Ramaphosa pointed out, "If the member states persistently commit to eliminating various non-tariff barriers, the BRICS will become stable, predictable, and mutually beneficial trading partners against the backdrop of current global turbulence."
The BRICS was established in 2006 as an intergovernmental cooperation mechanism by Russia, China, India, and Brazil. South Africa joined in 2011. Since early 2024, several countries have joined the BRICS. Earlier, Ushakov, a presidential aide of Russia, stated that countries such as Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Cuba, Uganda, Malaysia, and Uzbekistan officially became BRICS partner countries from January 1, 2025. On January 6, 2025, the Brazilian government announced that Indonesia joined the BRICS, becoming a formal member. Brazil assumed the chairmanship of the BRICS on January 1, 2025.
