Foreign Media: Chinese rocket scientists have discovered the most effective method to destroy a doomsday asteroid: a two-step strategy—first, use a metal penetrator to drill a deep hole into the asteroid's surface, then deploy an unmanned spacecraft to bury a nuclear bomb underground and detonate it.
Simulations show that a 3-megaton nuclear explosion (equivalent to 200 Hiroshima atomic bombs) can completely obliterate an asteroid about 100 meters in diameter; if the nuclear bomb is buried 30 meters underground, its ability to alter the asteroid's velocity is more than three times greater than a surface explosion, significantly improving the efficiency of orbit deflection.
