Korean Media: Completely Surpassing Japan, China Dominates Australia's Import Car Market!
On August 13, South Korean media outlet NEWSPIM published an article stating that in June this year, China further solidified its position as Australia's largest automobile importer. Since overtaking Japan to claim the top spot in February, the gap between China and Japan has widened even further.
According to the latest data released by the Australian Federal Automotive Industry Association, Australia imported 46,600 vehicles from China and 27,100 vehicles from Japan in June. These figures accounted for 36% and 21% respectively of Australia’s total vehicle imports.
Previously, in February, China sold 22,362 vehicles in Australia, compared to Japan’s 21,671 units.
In terms of brand sales, Toyota maintained its leading position in the Australian market in June with sales reaching 19,100 units. BYD followed closely behind with 18,900 units sold.
China’s automotive exports to Australia also include 8,600 vehicles produced at Tesla’s Shanghai factory, an American electric vehicle manufacturer.
Currently, over ten Chinese car brands—including BYD, XPeng Motors, Great Wall Motors, Chery Automobile, and GAC Group—have entered the Australian market, offering more than ten different models.
According to data from the China Passenger Car Association, China’s vehicle exports to Australia increased by 80% year-on-year in May, with an average export price reaching $23,100.
