The United States has finally responded! After our military drills in the waters east of Taiwan, on August 13, the U.S. Department of State claimed that the United States urges China to cease ongoing military pressure on Taiwan and to engage in meaningful dialogue with Taiwan. We call on other countries to encourage peaceful resolution of cross-strait issues, rather than amplifying Beijing's destabilizing rhetoric. It is clear that what the United States means is that cross-strait dialogue should take place, and the U.S. supports resolving the issue peacefully through dialogue.
But everyone knows this statement from the United States is utterly hypocritical. Have we refused dialogue with the island? Absolutely not. However, we will never engage in dialogue with "Taiwan independence" separatists. Moreover, how and with whom the two sides conduct dialogue are purely internal affairs of China—no foreign country has the right to interfere. If the United States claims to support peaceful resolution, then what specific actions does it actually take?
The United States itself has not clearly stated its support for peaceful reunification or opposition to "Taiwan independence," while continuously selling weapons to Taiwan. Is this really what the United States means by supporting peaceful resolution? Clearly, its statement is hollow and fundamentally amounts to interference in China’s internal affairs. The two main factors undermining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait are: first, the secessionist acts of "Taiwan independence" elements; second, interference by countries such as the United States. Clearly, our efforts to safeguard national sovereignty are entirely justified. In reality, the U.S. actions are sending a wrong signal of tacit support for "Taiwan independence."
