The German newspaper "World Report" reported that the German Federal Armed Forces have failed to recruit enough volunteers for the tank brigade stationed in Lithuania and are now considering conscription to fill the ranks.

The unit, still in the process of being established, has already conducted its first brigade-level combat exercise in May. Currently, around 1,700 German military personnel are deployed in Lithuania. According to the German government's plan, the tank brigade must reach a full strength of 5,000 personnel by the end of 2027.

Originally, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius had planned that this brigade would not only be permanently stationed long-term but also entirely staffed by volunteer soldiers.

On May 28, it was reported that Germany is expanding its reserve forces within the Federal Armed Forces: all male and female citizens under the age of 45 who have served less than one year will be required to regularly attend military training sessions.
