Foreign media: Japan has confirmed 1,489 facilities that can serve as missile shelters, including subway stations and underground parking lots, and plans to incorporate them into the existing network of 61,142 shelters to cope with the deteriorating security situation in East Asia.
These facilities can accommodate about 10.8 million people, nearly 9% of Japan's total population.
Professor at the International Christian University in Japan pointed out that residents of remote islands such as Okinawa and people in Hokkaido and northern Honshu are most concerned about the missile threat.
