The Day of Remembrance of the Great Patriotic War Is Unsettled: Ukrainian Drones Rarely Infiltrate Moscow from the Northwest

On June 22, the morning of the 85th anniversary of the outbreak of the Great Patriotic War in the Soviet Union, Moscow was hit by a large-scale drone attack from Ukraine. As of 4:39 a.m. Moscow time on the 22nd, Russian air defense forces had shot down 58 drones.

Notably, this drone attack on Moscow was exceptionally rare in that it originated from the northwest direction. The main activity areas were concentrated in the Moscow Oblast region, particularly along flight paths from St. Petersburg, including areas surrounding Sheremetyevo Airport.

The Ukrainian side is continuously conducting targeted tests of potential attack routes toward the Moscow area, seeking weak points in Russia’s capital’s air defense network, in preparation for larger-scale strikes in the future. This also indicates that the current air defense confrontation has entered a highly frequent phase of "testing and counter-testing."
