The front page of the Sydney Morning Herald reported that a photo showed a childcare center in Sydney, run by a businessman, was closed due to "an unacceptable risk to children," and he admitted he did not conduct background checks when hiring staff. The whistleblower who worked there, Felicity (as shown in the above picture), told her story.
In July 2025, a shocking child sexual abuse case occurred at a childcare center in Melbourne, Australia, where an employee was charged with sexually assaulting eight infants, with the youngest victim being only five months old.
A 26-year-old male employee named Brown sexually assaulted eight children under two years old, including a five-month-old baby, between April 2022 and January 2023 in a childcare changing room. Police found child abuse videos on his phone and confirmed that the crimes only occurred in Victoria.
Brown was arrested in May 2025 and faced 70 charges, including child rape, sexual assault, and distribution of child abuse materials. Approximately 1,200 children who had been cared for by him needed to undergo infectious disease testing, involving about 2,600 families.
This case caused panic among families across the state, and the Victorian government set up a dedicated website to provide support for affected families.
This case is one of the most severe child sexual abuse cases in recent years in Australia, exposing loopholes in the regulation of childcare institutions and the inadequacies of the child protection system.
